Obituary of Jane Elizabeth HARPER, wife of WYATT
(Microfilm: Atlanta Archives, Drawer 204, Box 30)
From: The Christian Index, February 15, 1855, page 27 - Penfield, GA
Departed this life, February 3rd, at the residence of her husband, Wyatt Harper, Jane Eliza, in the 42nd year ofher age.
The subject of this obituary had been a member of the Baptist Church 33 years. She joined at Holland’s Springs, Morgan County, of which she remained a member until her death.
She was a pious and devoted mother, a kind and affectionate wife, and an excemplary Christian. Her acts of charity and benevolence will not be forgotten. They will continue as a lasting memorial of her piety.
She bore her heavy afflictions with great fortitude, without a murmur of complaint. The writer of this humble tribute of respect was with the deceased in her dying hours.
Having called her family around her, she asked them to be composed, and to trust but in heaven. She has left an affectionate husband and eight children to mourn their improbable loss, but their love is her eternal gain. May God watch over them and enable him to train up his motherless children in the far of the Lord.
